How Can I Make Oral Hygiene Fun for My Kids?

Posted .

If your children despise cleaning and caring for their smiles, then our dentist, Dr. Greg Weeder, would like to help you change their mindset. Oral hygiene is very important, and if they learn to enjoy caring for their smiles now, it can benefit them, their teeth and their gums in many ways. So, to help you make oral hygiene fun and enjoyable for your kids, our dentist encourages you to do the following things:

-Let your children use fun oral hygiene tools: There are many toothbrushes and toothpaste that have different characters on them, like Iron Man, Barbie® and more. Let your children pick out the tools they want to use to clean their smile. This might make oral hygiene more exciting!

-Make oral hygiene a fun family activity: When your children need to brush, everyone in your family should brush, including your family dog. (Your dog should have its own toothbrush, of course). When your children see everyone brushing, they will see that it’s good to clean their smile regularly. You can even spice things up by playing a two-minute song while scrubbing!

-Make oral hygiene a game: The more your children brush, the more bubbles they create in the mouth. See how many bubbles they can make! You can even make brushing and flossing a superhero story. The plaque and bacteria are villains while the toothbrush and floss are the heroes. The heroes fight the bad guys and save the smile!
